Senior Microsoft Data Consultant – SQL Server, Fabric & Power Apps

Keyhole Software is hiring a Senior Microsoft Data Consultant with deep experience in SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric, and Power Apps to support a long-term enterprise client engagement. This hybrid consulting role is ideal for an experienced data engineer or database developer who enjoys solving complex data challenges, optimizing business-critical systems, and working directly with both technical and business stakeholders.

  • Title: Senior Microsoft Data Consultant
  • Location: Kansas City metro area; primarily remote with occasional onsite team meetings
  • Eligibility: Candidates must be authorized to work and reside in the United States and be physically located in the greater Kansas City area. No Corp-to-Corp (C2C) or Contract-to-Hire (C2H). At this time, Keyhole Software is unable to provide visa sponsorship.

About the Role

Keyhole Software is seeking an experienced Senior Microsoft Data Consultant to join our team. Our consultants are full-time members of Keyhole Software, working across a variety of long-term client engagements throughout their careers.

For this engagement, you’ll join a small applications team supporting a business-critical compensation application that has recently been rebuilt as part of a larger financial platform modernization. As the application approaches go-live, you’ll work across a complex SQL Server calculation layer, Microsoft Fabric lakehouse, and Power Apps front ends to resolve issues, improve performance, build enhancements, and help stabilize the application.

This is a logic-heavy system with limited existing documentation, so we’re looking for someone who is comfortable diving into an unfamiliar application, understanding complex stored procedures and business rules, and becoming a productive member of the client team quickly. You’ll also play an important role in documenting the system and leaving it more maintainable and supportable as the engagement progresses.

A genuine enthusiasm for using AI throughout the software development lifecycle is important to this position. Our most successful consultants are incorporating AI-assisted development into their daily workflows to improve productivity, accelerate troubleshooting, understand complex systems, strengthen documentation, and solve engineering problems. We’re looking for someone who embraces these tools thoughtfully while continuing to exercise sound technical judgment.

If you enjoy untangling complex data and business logic, improving application performance, and working directly with clients to solve meaningful technical problems, we’d love to talk with you.

Your Responsibilities

  • Quickly learn a calculation-heavy application and become a productive, independent member of the client team.
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and maintain complex SQL Server stored procedures, views, functions, indexes, and calculation logic.
  • Resolve defects and build enhancements across SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric lakehouse data, and Power Apps screens.
  • Diagnose and resolve SQL Server performance issues using execution plans, indexing strategies, query optimization, and other performance-tuning techniques.
  • Support application go-live and ongoing stabilization, troubleshooting, and refinement.
  • Document the system as you learn it, including data flows, stored procedures, schedules, recurring processes, and operational runbooks.
  • Help simplify legacy business rules and special cases as the client standardizes processes and evolves the application.
  • Identify technical and design concerns and communicate recommendations clearly and proactively.
  • Work directly with engineers as well as non-technical accounting and business stakeholders.
  • Provide technical continuity and support for a small client team in a collaborative consulting environment.
  • Leverage AI-powered development tools to improve productivity, analysis, documentation, troubleshooting, and delivery while exercising sound engineering judgment.
  • Contribute to a collaborative Keyhole consulting culture by sharing knowledge and supporting fellow consultants.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience in database development, data engineering, business intelligence, or related roles, with significant SQL Server experience.
  • Expert-level T-SQL skills, including complex stored procedures, views, functions, and set-based calculation logic.
  • Proven SQL Server performance-tuning experience, including execution plans, index design, statistics, parameter sensitivity, and blocking.
  • Hands-on production experience with Microsoft Fabric, particularly lakehouses and data pipelines.
  • Experience developing Power Apps canvas applications using SQL data sources, including an understanding of delegation limits and application performance.
  • Experience building or maintaining calculation-heavy business logic, such as compensation, payroll, commissions, billing, or financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand and contribute to existing, lightly documented systems.
  • Experience creating clear technical documentation for complex applications and processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues across application and data layers.
  • Experience working with sensitive or business-critical data.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable taking direction from a client team, working independently, and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or similar as part of everyday technical work.
  • Ability to meet onsite in Lenexa for occasional team meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working as a consultant or in client-facing technical roles.
  • Experience in the legal industry or professional services, particularly with Aderant or other law firm financial systems.
  • Familiarity with attorney or partner compensation models.
  • Experience with Power BI and Power Automate.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory or Azure Synapse.
  • Experience with source control and deployment practices for database code, including Git, Azure DevOps, or SQL database projects.
  • Microsoft certifications such as Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600), Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700), or Power Platform Developer Associate (PL-400).
