- Title: Full Stack Java Consultant / Developer
- Location: Hybrid in Lenexa, Kansas. Candidates must be able to work onsite at the Lenexa office three days per week.

About the Role
Keyhole Software is seeking an experienced Full Stack Java Developer to join our consulting team. Our consultants are full-time members of Keyhole Software, working across a variety of long-term client engagements throughout their careers.
We’re looking for a well-rounded developer with strong Java experience and the ability to contribute across both backend and frontend development. Depending on the client engagement, you’ll work with technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, relational databases, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern frontend frameworks like React or Angular.
This is a hybrid position based out of Lenexa, Kansas, with three days per week onsite required. We’re looking for someone who values the flexibility of hybrid work while also enjoying regular in-person collaboration with teammates and clients.
As a Keyhole consultant, you’ll be expected to do more than write code. You’ll collaborate with client teams, understand business and technical requirements, contribute to architecture and design decisions, troubleshoot complex issues, and adapt to different technologies and environments as projects evolve.
A genuine enthusiasm for using AI throughout the software development lifecycle is important to this position. Our most successful consultants are incorporating AI-assisted development into their daily workflows to improve productivity, accelerate delivery, troubleshoot problems, strengthen testing, and develop better software. Your Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack enterprise applications using Java and modern web technologies.
- Build scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
- Develop responsive, maintainable user interfaces using JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular.
- Design and work with relational databases, data models, queries, and persistence frameworks.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following established software engineering practices.
- Participate in application architecture, technical design, code reviews, and development standards.
- Develop and maintain unit, integration, and automated tests to support reliable software delivery.
- Work with CI/CD pipelines, source control, and modern development tooling.
- Troubleshoot application issues across frontend, backend, database, integration, and deployment layers.
- Collaborate directly with client stakeholders, developers, architects, QA engineers, and other members of cross-functional teams.
- Translate business and technical requirements into practical, maintainable software solutions.
- Leverage AI-powered development tools to improve productivity, code quality, problem-solving, and delivery while exercising sound engineering judgment.
- Adapt quickly to new client environments, technologies, architectures, and business domains.
- Contribute to a collaborative consulting culture by sharing knowledge and supporting fellow consultants.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong professional experience developing applications with Java.
- Experience with Spring and Spring Boot.
- Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and working with service-oriented or distributed application architectures.
- Professional frontend development experience using JavaScript or TypeScript and a modern framework such as React, Angular, or similar.
- Experience with relational databases, SQL, and persistence technologies such as JPA/Hibernate.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and Agile development practices.
- Understanding of object-oriented design, common software design patterns, and application architecture principles.
- Experience writing unit and integration tests and developing maintainable, testable software.
- Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude,
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with clients and technical teams.
- Comfortable learning new technologies and adapting to different technical environments.
- Curiosity about emerging AI capabilities and enthusiasm for continually improving software development practices.
- Ability to work onsite at Keyhole Software’s Lenexa, Kansas office three days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working as a consultant or in client-facing technical roles.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other container technologies.
- Experience with microservices and distributed systems.
- Experience with messaging and event-driven architectures.
- Familiarity with NoSQL or cloud-native data platforms.
- Experience implementing application security, authentication, and authorization using technologies such as OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.
- Experience modernizing legacy Java applications or migrating applications to newer frameworks and architectures.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, DevOps practices, and cloud-native application development.
- Experience working in enterprise environments with complex integrations and business requirements.
