JavaScript Bake-Off: Angular, React, and Vue

As Keyhole consultants, we are exposed to a plethora of technology stacks and implementations from client project to client project. Particularly with our enterprise clients, great care must go into selecting the best technologies for the company’s technical needs and current landscape. After all, they don’t want to be re-writing the same application in just a couple of years due to lackluster choices and shortage of developers to add functionality.

In this post, we present an open source reference application developed three times using three different frameworks, React, Vue & Angular.

Angular and Swagger: Experiences Learned

Recently I was fortunate enough to be a part of a project where we were building an application from scratch into an Angular front-end application with Microservices in the back end. Swagger was used as the contract between the UI and Microservices.

In this blog, I talk about the things I learned from this project experience, like how to use Swagger to define the endpoints of the Microservices, integrating Swagger-generated code into Angular, and working with configuration (including oAuth2 tokens), among other “gotchas…”

Animal Welfare & Insurance Applications with .NET and Angular

Keyhole Software .NET, Application Enhancement, Insurance, JavaScript

A Keyhole team focused on the company’s web-based flagship product suite used by animal shelters. This task included the development of two applications.

Application 1 tracks incoming and outgoing animals located in an animal shelter. It provides features to help welfare staff to track proper care of those animals, including all medical care, treatments, and procedures that an animal requires.

The application was developed with AngularJS (v1.4) for the front-end user interface. .NET was used for back-end RESTful web services, managing database activity with Code First Entity Framework. Keyhole Consultants worked the full stack to develop enhancements and troubleshoot existing features to ensure accuracy and performance.

Angular Developer: JavaScript to TypeScript

Chris Shatrov Angular, Articles, JavaScript, React, TypeScript 1 Comment

New JavaScript frameworks and libraries are created every day. This generates a dilemma: which solution should we use when starting a project?

My web development experience over the last few years has mainly included the AngularJS and Backbone.js frameworks. Angular, jQuery and traditional JavaScript have been in my comfort zone. When I ended up being face-to-face with TypeScript, it felt new, scary, and pretty confusing. I want to make that transition easier for you!

The goal of this post is to provide you an understanding of TypeScript, particularly when you come from an Angular web development background. To do so, we will first give an introduction to TypeScript. We will then discuss the differences between the different versions of Angular & Angular vs. React, with an eye for what you need to know to understand the JavaScript tooling landscape TypeScript plays in. And, lastly, we’ll go through a tangible TypeScript example for a look into syntax & structure.

Angular State/Country Directive

A Lesson In ROI: Scratch vs. Adapt Existing Angular Code

On a recent client project, I needed to develop an Angular front-end for a form that included address information. As part of the address information, there were State and Country fields. I knew I needed to make these select lists, because from a UX perspective, it would be crazy to leave them as regular old text inputs. I knew I wanted to create directives to implement these select lists. I also knew I probably wasn’t the first developer to ever want to do this.

In this blog, I talk about a decision that all developers face every day: how to solve programming problems in the best way with the best use of time. The scenario we’ll talk about shows the use of Angular directives for creating select lists for country and state. In doing so, it provides a good understanding of Angular directives as one possible way they can help make Angular development great.
